Earl Simmons A.K.A. DMX is no stranger to the prison system. After going to jail for failing drug tests at the end of January, the legendary Yonkers rapper is headed back to prison on another count. This time, due to the tax evasion charge he was still waiting to be sentenced on at the time.
Prosecutors initially wanted him to serve 5-years, but the judge has ordered him to serve one year and three years of supervised released after he gets out.
DMX originally faced 40 years in prison for allegedly engaging in a “multi-year scheme” to prevent from paying around $1.7 million in taxes from the IRS.
As you may have heard this week, X’s lawyers were planning on playing his music in court to sway the judge to be more sympathetic. How much playing “Slippin” during the trial affected the outcome cannot be determined, but it’s another sad chapter for the rapper and his battle with not only himself, but also the system.
Let's pray for X rather than making a joke about it!
